Although Queen Elizabeth was not expected to attend tonight’s Platinum Party At the Palace, a concert outside Buckingham Palace that celebrates her 70th year as a king, it doesn’t mean that she didn’t make herself known at the event. Before the performances, a special clip was premiered featuring the Queen and Paddington Bear having tea.

The sweet clip features Paddington (voiced in sweet by Ben Whishaw), having tea with Queen Elizabeth. He offers her a marmalade sandwich and says that he had kept it in his red hat. The beloved children’s book character and movie star says, “I always have one for emergencies.” The British monarch replied, “So do you,” and proceeded to grab her snack from her signature top-handle bag. She smiles and says, “I keep mine here…for later.”
After panning to adoring fans, Paddington tips his hat and wishes Queen Elizabeth a happy Jubilee. He also thanks to them for everything. Deadline states that the sequence was “kept under wraps” for several months. While the clip above is just a minute long, there is a long sequence of two and a quarter minutes that was broadcast during the concert to prepare for the Queen’s performance. According to Deadline, Buckingham Palace released a statement about the film that reads: “Her Majesty’s sense of humor is well-known, so it shouldn’t surprise that she agreed to participate in tonight’s sketch. The filming and animation process was very popular and it was a great opportunity to invite a famous bear for tea. Although The Queen might not be able to attend the concert, she wanted people to understand how important it was to her and that everyone had a good time.
