His franchise announced the death of Mike Schuler, an 81-year old former coach. He was the Blazers’ coach from 1986 to 1989. He received the Coach of the Year honor for 1986-87, where he led the team to victory. This was his first season as the head coach of the team. Mike is the second rookie head coach to be named coach of the Year. Since Mike, there have been only three rookie coaches to receive the honor.

Terry Potter, a former member of the Blazers, stated in a statement that he had the privilege of being coached by Mike as well as coaching alongside him later in his career. He said that he was an incredible coach, and that his coaching style was focused on getting the best from the players. He was very happy to have such a talented coach beside him and could learn so much from him. He was very kind and knew what he was doing.
