How Did Radu Lupu Die?

Radu Lupu CBE, a Romanian pianist. He is widely considered to be one of the most important living pianists. Lupu was born in Galati (Romania) and began learning to play the piano when he was six years old. Florida Musicescu, Heinrich Neuhaus, and Dinu Lipatti were his two most influential piano teachers. Heinrich Neuhaus taught Emil Gilels and Sviatoslav Richter. He won three of the most prestigious international piano competitions: the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (1966), George Enescu International Piano Competition (67) and the Leeds International Piano Competition (69). These wins launched Lupp’s international career. He has performed with all the major orchestras, in every major festival and music capital of the world. Lupu was a Decca Records artist who recorded over 20 records between 1970 and 1993. His solo recordings include works of Beethoven, and Brahms. Grieg, Mozart and Schubert. Decca’s chamber music recordings include all of Mozart’s piano and violin sonatas; Debussy’s and Frank’s violin sonatas; and Schubert’s various piano and violin works with Goldberg.

He also recorded Mozart’s four-hand keyboard and two-piano works for CBS Masterworks with Murray Perahia, Schubert songs for EMI with Barbara Hendricks, and four-hand piano pieces for Teldec with Daniel Barenboim. Lupp is also known for his performances of works by Janacek and Debussy. Lupp was nominated twice for Grammy Awards. She won one for Schubert’s 1996 piano sonatas in 1996. Lupp was also awarded an Edison Award in 1995 for a CD that included three major Schumann piano works. Lupu also received the Franco Abbiati Prize, in 1989 and 2006, and the Premio Internazionale Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (2006).
