Officials from Uganda Airlines have taken the CEO of Uganda Airlines into custody on Tuesday, June 21st. With the assistance of the Police, the Inspectorate of Government (IG), has taken the CEO of Uganda Airlines into custody. Cornwell Muleya is the CEO. On Tuesday, he was detained for violating IGG’s orders under section 35(a), Inspectorate of Government Act 2002. According to the representative of IG, Mr. Muleya was already in custody. He will be presented in court today, June 22. He had not followed an order of IGG (Inspectorate of Government), and refused to do so of his own volition and without any justification or excuse.

This took place between May and June. The IGG ordered him to appear in evidence and to produce all necessary documents. This order, dated May 23, 2022, was about the mismanagement of public funds, procurement, and recruitment at Uganda Airlines. Muleya was one of those officials who helped to revive the airline when it seemed almost impossible. Muleya was a Zambian who started to dig and spread his roots in the aviation industry back in 1995.
For more than eight years, he was the CEO and manager of Air Botswana Corporation. Later, he was promoted to Air Mauritius. He also served as CEO of Zambezi Airlines Ltd. and ALS limited in Kenya. He was appointed to the position of CEO of Air Uganda in 2013. He has worked in the aviation industry for over 23 years. However, 2022 was a difficult year for Mr. Muleya. President Museveni issued the orders of suspension to allow for an investigation into the allegations of poor financial management, collusion with outside forces, nepotism during recruitment, and other issues. After being suspended for nine months, he was terminated. After a non-show at the mediation sessions, the case was referred the Industrial Court.
