Lawyers have asked Mrs Justice Emma Arbuthnot whether doctors should continue to treat Archie. On Monday, she will begin to oversee a final hearing at the Family Division of High Court London. Archie was reportedly brain-damaged in an accident at home in April. The court heard from his mother that he was unconscious and had a ligature covering his head. She believed he was taking part in an internet challenge. Since then, he has not been conscious again. In May, Mrs Justice Arbuthnot ruled doctors can determine whether Archie is still alive and suggested that Archie should have a brain-stem test.
Ms. Dance urged the judge to give her son more time. She said that she was “disgusted by the verdict” and added that it had been “absolute hell” watching her other children “over and over again hear by the hospital trust that my baby is dead”. At a previous hearing, one specialist said that scans had shown that Archie had suffered irretrievable brain damage. Two others stated that tests had shown that Archie was “brain-stem deceased”.
